Topic: EVERY MEMBER, A BIBLE STUDENT (3)

It is important that you take these things to heart and put them into practice.

Psalms 119:18 (KJV) says: “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.”

The wondrous things are in the Word of God.

Hebrews 4:12 (KJV) “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

There are some facts or information you should know about the Word of God. You must know that:

1. The Bible is one of the greatest blessings that God has given to man. It is therefore a tragedy when you have a Bible and you do not read it or study it. You are cutting yourself short and cheating yourself. The reason there are so many slaves of prophets is because people do not read their Bibles. They do not study the Word of God. They are too lazy to dig deep into the Word of God, and because of that, all kinds of funny people with occultic powers and prophets have plenty of customers.

This is why, in MFM, we do not encourage anyone to be running to prophets to see vision for them without knowing which spirit they are using to see the vision. And some of the time, they give you the vision, and it is a curse. You will not know that, and you will follow it hook, line, and slinker. Some people believe that until somebody stands before them and shakes like a banana leaf and then talks, God is not speaking. No.

The greatest thing that God has to say is inside the Bible. But when men and women do not read it, they rely on vision and prophecy, becoming slaves to fake prophets.

How can a person with a Master’s degree from the university allow a prophet to put incisions on her breasts and her pubic area? For what? It is crazy. It is Biblical illiteracy.

2. The Bible is the greatest of all books. Whatever book you carry, whether science, literature, or whatever you call them, they are all insignificant whenever you talk about the Bible, because all science and social science took their roots from the Bible and began to grow.

The man who started the field of oceanography started it when he read Psalms 8, where it talks about things passing by the paths of the sea. And if you have ever gone under the sea, you will see that it has pathways like our complicated highways here on land.

So the Bible is the root of all those fields, whether medicine, science, social science, or even architecture. Somebody discovers something, writes a big book, and gets a PhD for it. Another person makes another discovery to debunk what the first person has done. He, too, gets a PhD for it. Those of you who attended primary and secondary school knew the New Oxford English Reader, which the authors kept revising. But nobody revises the Bible. It is standing where it is standing.

If you run faster than it, it will not run after you; it is you who will reverse to meet it. If you decide to be slower than it, it will not slow down for you; it is you who will catch up with it. The Bible has no respect for any culture. If a black or white man is doing something wrong, the Bible will speak against it. It is racially blind. It does not discriminate. Wrong is wrong, and right is right. When men do not read it, there is a serious problem.

3. It is impossible to enslave a Bible reader. It is when men steer away from this that they become slaves.
4. If you are ignorant of God’s word, you will also be ignorant about His will.
5. The Bible will keep you away from sin, or sin will keep you away from the Bible. This is a very serious matter.
6. The Bible is meant to be bread for daily use. It is not like the cake that you eat on special occasions. It is our daily bread.
7. Do not say that God is silent when your Bible is closed. You are the one not reading it.
8. It is when you open your Bible that God opens His mouth. The Bible is your greatest prophet, the manifesto of the Almighty, and the instruction manual for how to live on this earth. To abandon it is to abandon life and destiny. Complaining about a silent God when your Bible is closed is like complaining about no text messages on your phone when it is turned off. This is a serious matter.
9. The Bible was not given for our information, but for our transformation.
10. The quickest way to spiritual maturity is through the Bible. You want to grow spiritually? The first place to start is to become a Bible addict. You study it because the study of the Bible is the study of God. The Bible is the only book that predicts the future. Therefore, you cannot have a relationship with God outside of the Bible.
11. If you do not love Bible reading, you should be made to know that your spiritual life is under attack. Immediately after you grab the Bible, do you fall asleep or feel bored? The truth is this: Your spiritual life is under attack. There is something inside you that is anti-Word of God; resisting it, and you must fight it. When you do not love the Bible, which is the living voice of God, the divine authority that speaks on things, then your life goes down.
12. Whatsoever keeps you from the Bible is a very strong enemy—stronger than witches and wizards. The thing that makes you open the Bible only when you are in church or only to read Psalms when you have bad dreams and not as a regular pattern is indeed a great enemy.
13. Whether you like it or not, the Bible is a weapon of war. Read the Bible through, you will discover that it is a military book. From the beginning to the end, you find military terminologies spread all over the scriptures; because life itself is full of troubles. Life is war. Job said, “A man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble,” not enjoyment.

So any preacher who is telling you that you can live a trouble-free life is just deceiving you. A trouble-free life is but a vain dream. You must fight. And if you stand by the Bible, God will stand by you. You may look like a joker. People may even be mocking you, but do not worry.

14. Finally, the enemy is always afraid of a violent Bible reader. That is, somebody will sit down and read a very large chunk of the scripture at a time. Someone who memorises the Bible. Who keeps speaking the Word of God. He becomes a giant in faith.

It is very insulting and an embarrassment to salvation that the children of darkness will sit down and memorise 200 pages of incantations. Some other religions will memorise thousands and thousands of pages, but believers are too lazy to do that. Many who should sit down to examine the Word of God waste their time reading useless books that have not moved their lives forward in any way. Answer me: all the gossip magazines you have been reading, what has it added to your destiny? Nothing.

It is a waste of spiritual life. Make up your mind that you will become a Bible student and heaven will applaud you because the Bible says, “For the word of God is quick and powerful” and that “God exalts His word above His name”. So, when somebody keeps proclaiming it, it is a very serious matter. Notice that in the days of Jesus, the Bible was not in this small book that we carry about now. It was in parchments like scrolls, skins, and other things. But those men understood the scriptures.

Anytime they came to confront Jesus, they would quote the law, and Jesus would quote the law to answer them again. He would ask them, “Is it not written in your law…?” It was the same with Paul, the apostle, and other disciples. They memorised the scriptures. And so, if you want to become a Bible addict, there are steps you can take. I discussed the first one for the first time. I am going to say it again today:

Methods of Becoming a Bible Addict.

Method 1.
Read the Word of God aloud. In those days of Christ, people spoke the Word aloud as they read it. And like the Ethiopian eunuch reading the Word of God in his chariot, read it aloud. Reading aloud slows us down. It is half the speed of trading silently. When you read silently, you are engaging your eyes and your brain. But when you speak, you are engaging three things: your eyes, mouth, and brain. So that slows you down, ensuring that that word sinks into your system. It helps you to take in the scriptures through two gates: the eyes and the ears, because as you are just saying it, you are hearing it in your ears. This is far more profitable and engaging than silent reading. It is something you should try out.

Method 2:
Discuss the Word of God. Find friends who love the Bible or attend Bible studies. Discuss the Word of God, the interpretations, try to answer questions, and get into Bible study. Now there are devotionals around which you can read per day that explain the scriptures given, so you can understand them deeper. Choose a good devotional. If you know you do not have the discipline to read it by yourself or do not have a study group, discuss the Word with your family or friends. This is more profitable than gossip and murmuring. Get a Bible study group too.

Method 3:
Hand-copy the Bible. This exercise can be much more stimulating than you can guess. When you hand-copy the Bible, it slows your brain down and then synchronises your mind with the meaning of the passage. Your hand, brain, and eyes are all working at the same time. So people who are very wise and who want to become Bible addicts sometimes have the Bible on one side and a jotter on the other side, and when they see a passage that interests them, they take their pen and begin to write. You can also type. In so doing, you are taking it in and eating it. It becomes a part of you.

Method 4:
Study the Word. There are so many methods of Bible study. There are also so many engagement techniques. You can analyse the grammar, and you can also use different versions. Some may even need to get the Bible in their own language to understand more. You observe Bible facts and find parallel passages in the Bible. Then there are commentaries that will comment on the Bible for you. There are some that will tell you the original languages parts of the Bible were written in. You can do a word study. You can do a character study. You can pick a passage, read through it, and investigate what to do with it. Write down the lesson you have learnt and by doing so, you can become a student of the Word of God.

3. (Mention your name) Hear the Word of the Lord: possess your possessions, in the name of Jesus.
