Topic: BRINGING DOWN THE FIRE OF GOD
Text: 1 Kings 18:36–39, 40; 2 Kings 1:9–10, 12.
Minister: Dr. Daniel Olukoya (G.O. MFM Worldwide)

There is a purpose for this message.
1 Kings 18:36–39 (KJV) says: “And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.”

The bringing down of the fire brought an instant effect.
1 Kings 18:40 (KJV) says: “And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.”

● So shall all satanic prophets fashioned against you be destroyed, in the name of Jesus.

2 Kings 1:9 (KJV): “Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.”
A downward invitation.

2 Kings 1:10 (KJV): “And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.”
They did not give up, they sent another fifty.

2 Kings 1:12 (KJV) says: “And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.”

Fire is an instrument in the hands of God. Fire is very powerful in movement. It has a penetrating power. Fire is very aggressive. When fire enters a forest, it has no respect for small or big animals or insects. It is very militant. There is no cold fire; fire is always very hot. We need more than at any time, beloveth, to bring down the fire of God to amaze those who doubt the power of our God. Over 250 times in the scriptures, when it would appear as if the devil was in control because of his noise and revival, on each occasion, God would show up and say, “No, I am still here”.

We are living in an age that is very risky and dangerous to survive. We are living in a society that sometimes denies the power of our God. Now, as a modern-day Christian, what do you do in order not to allow the enemy to humiliate you? What do you do in order not to allow the enemy to use a broom to sweep the floor? How do you refuse the satanic suggestions and insults of the enemy?

Look at these people who gathered around Elijah to disgrace him, just before God took him. They were ready to ask Elijah, “Where is the Lord your God?”

So if you do not want to be trampled upon by men and women and satanic agents of the world, you need to learn a few principles from the life of Elijah. Elijah did what no man had done before. He openly challenged the host of hell to an open contest and defeated them there. He challenged the whole of a backsliding nation. He came from the presence of God to Mount Carmel, and he gave a living demonstration of the power of God to Israel. The Bible says, ‘And whomsoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken, but on whomsoever the stone shall fall, it shall grind him to powder’. That is the power of our God.

Now, if you do not know the power of that God and how to bring down His presence into your situation, which is desperately needed in this dark hour, the enemy will use you as a louvre to clean the carpet. Elijah rough-handled the powers of darkness. He humiliated them. He made them cry for mercy. He made them depart in a hurry. He roared loud and clear before the people, ‘O God, if you are still there, show yourself.’ He did not try to negotiate. It is time for many of us to roar in desperate prayer like that to recover what the enemy has stolen and to show them that God is still alive.

Point to your mouth and declare loud and clear:
● My Father put the power of ‘It is done’ in my mouth, in the name of Jesus.

Beloveth, plenty of people, including Christians, are operating at a low level of performance, and like I was saying at one particular PMCH, many can be described as people operating below their optimum standard. Many do not understand that there is a treasure in them. Many have become like a treasure in the dunghill, buried between the rubbles of trouble, anxiety, and sorrow. Many are like oil in a hard shell, which is very difficult to crack.

Many are like a beauty buried inside the coffin of slavery and poverty. Some can be described as greatness that has been caged behind the bars of wickedness and worry.

Many are completely lost in the sea of hopelessness and despair, golden greatness lost in the wilderness of frustration, held tightly by the chains of fear, struggling to get free, but there is a concrete power of fear, blinded by the powers of ignorance and unbelief, defeated by the very thing they know how to do best.

What do you do;

  • when your situation is like this?
  • when the enemy appears to be winning?
  • when good things just disappear consistently?
  • when the enemy is just broadcasting evil about you?
  • when the enemy has put a full stop on your moving forward?
  • when the enemy is the traffic warden of your breakthrough, determining what should and what should not come?
  • when the enemy wants you to move from grace to grass?
  • if after many years of marriage, one strange woman shows up and wants to eat the fruit of your labour?
  • when they gang up together and tell lies against you and you are retired prematurely?
  • when you are openly threatened by the powers of darkness?
  • when they say, “Show us the power of your God; we want to see it”?
  • when the enemy has pushed you to the lowest level?
  • when all hope seems to be gone and those who wanted to help you have now disappeared?
  • when those you sponsored to school are now doing well but are not ready to help you?
  • when you have read and read and when you got to the hall, you went blank and did not remember anything?
  • when the enemy is threatening you with death?

You need to understand how to bring down the power of God. There are seven main situations in the Scriptures when fire was released by God. Let us go through them before we start praying now. More than at any other time, beloveth, we need the fire power of God to come to our aid, where unbelievers will say, ‘This is the hand of God; we cannot down anything.’ Where unbelievers will say, ‘This is God fighting for you’. I am sure I have shared this testimony before.

A brother got into a restaurant and ordered food. They brought the food to him. As per his usual pattern, without bothering about who was looking at him, he laid hands on the food and prayed in the name of Jesus. He washed his hand, took the first morsel, and dipped it into the soup, but before he could bring it to his mouth, a strange stone fell from above into his plate and broke the plate of soup into pieces. He looked up and did not see from where it fell, but then he was surprised. Then he stood up, washed his hands, and prepared to leave.

A man then walked up to him and said, “Mr. Man, you are serving a living God. Continue to serve that God. Because in this restaurant today, we were asked to come and poison a man. We had told the attendant who to give the soup to, but she made a mistake and gave it to you. We could not withdraw it from you. But as you prayed your prayers, something fell and broke the place to pieces.” We need such a physical demonstration of the power of God that will scare even our hardened enemies.

Raise your right hand to the heavens and declare:

● Power fire of God that cannot be insulted by any power of darkness, arise: fight for me now, in the name of Jesus.

Christianity is not theory; this is the age when we must experience the physical manifestation of heavenly power that will make anyone contesting against your destiny so scared, where anyone trying to conjure your face and then it backfires, they will be so scared.

I read a story about the great Apostle Babalola that made me laugh nonstop for almost 5 minutes. He was going on his missionary journey, and this policeman stopped him, asking for different things. The Apostle made him understand that he had a ministration but the policeman wanted money, and he was not ready to give him.

When the trouble became too much for the man of God, he just opened his mouth and said, “Heavenly angels, heavenly soldiers, where are you?” And immediately, some unseen power grabbed the policeman and started beating him. Nobody saw who was beating him, but he was screaming and shouting. The beating became more serious, and he was shouting and screaming until the inspector came. He said to the apostle, “Has the man insulted you? Yeee, sorry, sir.” Then, after a while, the apostle said, “heavenly host, leave him alone,” and they released him.

Right from that day, anytime Babalola’s car was coming, they would allow him to pass hurriedly. We need a living demonstration of the power of the living God.

Why does God release His power?

  1. God releases His fire to consume the wicked. Psalms 97:3 (KJV) says: “A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.”
  2. God releases His fire to lead His people.
Exodus 13:21 (KJV) says: “And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:”

● His fire shall lead you to your breakthroughs, in the name of Jesus.

  1. He uses his fire to protect his people.
Exodus 14:19–20 (KJV) says: “And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.”
  2. To purify His people from iniquity.
Malachi 3:2-3 (KJV) says: “But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ sope: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.”
  3. God sends His fire to empower His people.
Acts 2:2–3 (KJV) says: “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.”
  4. To consume sacrifices (1 Kings 18).
  5. For judgement (2 Kings 1).

When you begin to learn these principles, you begin to learn how to become a terror to the powers waging war against you. How do you bring down the fire in your situation? It does not have to be physical fire.

So how do you bring down the fire of God into your life so that what has been stubborn will bow? There are conditions:

  1. You must stand right with God, for he who wants to call the fire of God to help him must be a friend of that God and be in right standing with God.
  2. You must lay down properly, the altar of God. Prepare the altar of your heart before God. Iniquity must not dwell in your camp. If it does, there will be no fire.
  3. Present the right sacrifice. These are principles from the life of Elijah. “If my people who are called by my name…” If you will just do what God wants you to do according to 2 Chronicles 7:14 and submit to Him, you present the right sacrifice.
  4. Ask for the fire.

Without fulfilling all these conditions, you could ask for fire, and nothing would happen.

Today, the forces surrounding us have made it compulsory for us to become God’s danger men and women, to become fire men and women, to be able to declare with boldness, and to be able to get to the presence of God and bring His fire down.

PRAYER POINTS.

(Confess any sin in your life that wants to hinder you from bringing down a personal fire from heaven to fire for you.)

  1. Fire of God, arise: repair anything the enemy has damaged in my life, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Where is the fire of the God of Elijah? Arise: Kill my problems now, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Fire of God, pass through my family, and scatter every witchcraft power, in the name of Jesus.
  4. Fire of God, open any good gate that was closed against me, in the name of Jesus.
