Topic: THE WONDER WORKING POWER
Text: Acts 4:9–12, 23–31

The lame man by the beautiful gate in the temple had just been healed. He was by that beautiful gate, but he had a problem. But one morning, the situation of that lame man changed.
When he was leaving home that day, if somebody had told him he would have a testimony, he would have argued. But just in five minutes or less, his life changed forever.
● The five-minute miracle that will change your life forever will happen in your life, in the name of Jesus.
Now, the Apostles were being harassed for healing. They had to defend the healing. This is a very sad situation. Those who were coming to the temple to pray or to call on God were not happy that someone who had been lame since they knew him, was now walking. That is why the Bible says that the heart of man is desperately wicked. In Acts 9, the Apostles began to speak:
Acts 4:9-11 (KJV): “If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.”
Then they made the most powerful statement in the Bible.
Acts 4:12 (KJV) “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
There is no other name. There is no salvation elsewhere apart from the name of Jesus. They continued:
Acts 4:23–31 (KJV) “And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.”
Miracles, signs, and wonders play a very major role in the scriptures, particularly in the early church. The good news is this: the days of miracles, signs, and wonders are not over; for Jesus, they are the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is still the Owner of the wonder working power.
That is why that songwriter said:
There is power, power, wonder-working power,
In the blood of the lamb,
There is power, power, wonder-working power,
In the precious blood of the lamb.
We need that wonder-working power in our lives today. People need to know the God of signs and wonders and the God of miracles.
There is a power:
- that is above all powers.
- Before whom all other powers bow.
- That can go from village to village, city to city.
- that waits for the doctor to write down all his diagnoses and then cancels them.
- That is called the Dominion Power.
- That maketh alive, that maketh rich, and that maketh poor.
- That killeth without hands.
- That makes all things to consist.
- That awakens dry bones.
- That speaks creative words to things, and they begin to create themselves.
- That invites living winds to blow on dry bones.
- That destroys stagnancy and eliminates decay.
- That provokes angelic violence.
- That raises both physically and spiritually dead.
- that killeth diseases in the body.
- That scares away even death.
- That makes a man or woman want to swim in healing waters.
- That arrests coffin spirits, no matter how powerful they are.
- That makes oil come out of flinty stones, meaning that no matter how hard or difficult the situation may be, God is able to bring out your own breakthrough.
A woman had lost a fallopian tube; only one was left. She got pregnant. By the time, she went for a scan, she was told that the pregnancy was ectopic and in the fallopian tube. So the fallopian tube had to be cut off. They told her a day before one of our programs. She said, “Okay, I will come from the hospital for the service and come back for the surgery after”. She was at the service, and the wonder-working power of the God of signs and wonders was there.
There was a word of knowledge that said, “There is a woman here with a bad medical report, but right there where you are, it is cancelled.” That night, she went back to the doctor and said, “I am ready for the surgery now.” The doctor said, “Okay, before we do the surgery, let us carry out the final scan”. The person doing the scan was looking at the result and saying, “What is going on here?” He turned to the woman and asked, ‘Madam, why are you here?’ She said, “I have an ectopic pregnancy; they want to do surgery.”.
The man said, “No, from what I can see, the two fallopian tubes are there; there is no need for a surgery. What is the problem?” So he abandoned the scan and went to call a more senior person. That one too took the machine, looked, and asked, ‘Madam, why are you here?” She said “ectopic pregnancy surgery.” The man said, “No, the baby is in the womb, and the two fallopian tubes are there.” The woman said, ‘But one has been cut off o.’ They said, “No, madam, nobody cut if off; it is there.” That is the power of the wonder-working Jesus.
● I see somebody here this evening, and that power shall overshadow your life, in the name of Jesus.
It is the same power that parted the Red Sea so that God’s people could cross. In many cases in the scriptures, the dead were raised to life. The widow of Zarephath’s son was raised to life by Elijah. Elisha raised the Shunnamite woman’s son to life. The three Hebrew children in the fiery furnace encountered the fourth man in the fire, and they were delivered. The wonder-working power of God can deliver from any trouble. That widow, who was broke and had nothing to feed her two sons with, had the miracle of oil. God is a God of providence.
As you read through your scriptures, you will see the wonder-working power of God over and over again. Jesus turned water into wine. Jesus walked on water. Jesus took money from the mouth of the fish. Jesus took a few loaves and fishes and fed 5,000 people. Jesus commanded the storm to cease. Jesus got to the tomb of Lazarus. After praying quietly to His father, He turned to the spirit of death and hell and said, “Lazarus, come forth!” and the man came forth. The wonder-working power of God. I also want you here tonight to call on that wonder-working power when the time comes.
With that wonder working power,
- nothing is something.
- If what you desire is not available, God creates it.
- Somebody who is a complete nonentity becomes somebody.
- That power will advertise God when everybody has given up.
- He is the surgeon who does not need to touch the patient before surgery takes place.
- It is that wonder working power that fills something empty to overflow.
- When all the doors of solution are closed, it moves to force the doors open.
● I am praying for somebody here: all the good doors the enemy has closed against you shall be forced open, in the name of Jesus.
It is that wonder working power:
- That converts liability into assets.
- That converts failure to success.
● The God of that wonder-working power shall start a battle for your sake that will move your life forward, in the name of Jesus.
Why do we need to call upon that wonder-working power here tonight?
- It is because plenty of Pharaohs are troubling our destinies.
- So that evil kings will not reign over us.
- Because plenty of Goliaths have risen against the children of God, and all the Goliaths need to be disgraced.
- Because in many places, believers are harassed and punished.
- long standing yokes are boasting against the Christians.
- The cries of family idols are dragging some people into despair and failure.
- So that we can demonstrate to the world that the God of Elijah is still on duty.
- To come and do great wonders in our midst.
There is somebody here tonight who needs to call upon that wonder-working power so that the reign of your mockers can be terminated.
Listen to these hard facts before you start praying tonight:
- The scope of your vision will be determined by who you believe God is. If you are sitting down here and there are certain positions and levels that if someone says to you, “Do you know you are getting there?” and you say, “Ahn Ahn, you are prophesying. Is it in this world or the next?”, You cannot really go far. Understand this very well.
- Every time God presents a significant opportunity, it is usually enveloped in a crisis or is connected to danger, and it comes at a great cost. So all those problems you are seeing, as far as heaven is concerned, are raw materials for greatness.
- If you do not believe God for the impossible, then you are a slumbering Christian.
- If the vision you have for your life is not intimidating to you, then you are an insult to God and to heaven. If you keep seeing yourself as low, you will need to wake up and do something quick. It is unfortunate that many believers are not doing what they should do. They are not keying into the power of God.
Plenty of the houses many are living in and are having difficulty paying rent have landlords that cannot even read or write, and they have 6 or 7 houses. But those who have gone to school cannot really bring the power of God down. So if you want to see what God can do, then mad faith is not optional.
● I am praying for somebody here that the kind of faith that will move your destiny forward will overshadow your life, in the name of Jesus.
This is where we are so different from our ancient fathers in faith. The kind of faith they exercised is just above us. When the pentecostal church, through Apostle Ayo Babalola, moved to Ile Ife, they went to the king to give them a land. That king did not want to give them a land. So he pointed to a forbidden forest and gave them that. This forbidden place was visited by nobody. Pregnant women who died with their pregnancies were thrown there; familiar-spirit children who just died were thrown there. But as terrible as this forest was, there was a single man who lived there who was called Yellow Man.
This man lived there alone. He would come out every morning, looking fresh. He would never eat any meat apart from dog meat. He had become a principality in that place. He was neither growing old nor young; he just remained as he was. Nobody went to his forest and came out alive. It was there that the king gave to them. The believers thanked the king very much and went to the forest. They started praying. As they started to pray, they began to cut the grass. As they were cutting the grass, they were hearing footsteps of people running and colliding with each other.
They just continued cutting it. But the modern day men would have run away. These men kept cutting the grass, and then Yellow Man came out. He said, “Excuse me, you want to die? Do you not know this place?” They said, ‘We know.’ He asked, “And you are cutting the grass on my land?” They said, “It is not your land because the Bible says ‘the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof’”. So he pointed at them and said, ‘None of you will wake up tomorrow. Who gave you this land?’ They said, “It is the king.” He said, ‘Okay, I am going to the king.’ He went to the king and asked, “You gave those people my land?” The king denied them and said, No, I did not give them. Go and deal with them.’ Yellow Man went back to the land, and the believers continued cutting.
By the next morning, when the believers came to continue their work, Yellow Man was dead. That is the wonder-working power.
PRAYER POINTS
- (Shout the name of Jesus seven times), by your wonder working power, manifest in my life, in the name of Jesus.
- Powers dancing before any Herod against my destiny, die in the name of Jesus.
- (Shout the name of Jesus seven times), by your wonder-working power, let my story change, in the name of Jesus.
- (Shout the name of Jesus seven times), by your wonder-working power, pursue my pursuers in the name of Jesus.
- (Shout the name of Jesus seven times), by your wonder-working power, let my Goliath die, in the name of Jesus.
- (Shout the name of Jesus seven times), by your wonder-working power, let my enemies scatter, in the name of Jesus.
