Topic: THE DANGEROUS MATHEMATICIAN
Text: James 1:14–15, Psalms 51:4.
Minister: Dr. Daniel Olukoya (G.O. MFM Worldwide)

James 1:14–15 (KJV) says: “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Remember the matching order Delilah was given against Samson.”

Psalms 51:4 (KJV) also says: “Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.”

Sin is the most terrible thing in our universe because it had the power to take the Son of God and nail Him to the cross. It is the most dangerous mathematician. It can add to one’s sorrow. It can add to one’s problems. That is the addition it does.

Then it can subtract from:

  • your destiny,
  • your efficiency,
  • your health,
  • your prosperity and wealth

That is the subtraction agenda of sin.

Sin can fragment or divide your soul. That is, the more people you sleep with, the more fragmented your soul is, all over the place. So a lot of people walking about are not whole; they are fragmented. One part of you is in the US, another is in Sokoto, and another is in Port Harcourt, and you are looking for a breakthrough. Sin can fragment or divide your home, your peace, your energy, and the power of your body, soul, and mind. That is the division part of sin. It is a terrible mathematician.

Sin can multiply sorrow, tragedy, and bondage. If you had one bondage before, it can multiply your bondages. Jesus looked at that man and said, “Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you”. The Bible says, “Their sorrows shall be multiplied who seek after other gods”. Many are suffering from the multiplication of sins now.

Sin:

  • can weaken your senses.
  • can damage your reasoning, injure your conscience,
  • can obscure your sense of God.
  • will keep you working hard but not get you anywhere.
  • can take your mind off spiritual things.
  • can increase the authority of the flesh over your mind.

Many of us need to cry out to God loud and clear here this morning, the way one tribal chief cried to David Livingstone, the missionary. This chief of a village went to Livingstone, and after listening to him speak, he said to him, “Man of God, give me medicine to change my heart because it is proud, uneasy, and angry.” Many of us need to cry out to the Lord this morning and say, “Father, give me a new heart!”

When the Almighty puts a full stop somewhere, you are a sinner if you now put a question mark there. God put a full stop at the garden of Eden when He said, “Do not eat from this tree,” but Eve now began to put a question mark there. Therefore, sin is abominable to the Almighty.

There was this pastor who died, and when he was taken to a crusade, he came alive. He said that before he came back to the world, he was hearing the screams of people in hellfire. He even said he heard pastors crying in hellfire, saying, “I stole church money; let me go back and pay!”

Sin stinks to the highest heavens. A sinner in one department is an all-around sinner. So going about saying, “Well, thank God, I do not steal or tell lies” when you gossip makes you an all-around sinner. The Bible says, “If you break one commandment, you will be treated as though you broke all”, because the person who said “thou shalt not steal” is the same person who said “thou shalt not commit adultery”, so if you do not commit adultery and you steal, you are an adulterer as well.

The trouble with a little sin is that it will not stay little; it will grow big.

The terrible thing about sin concerned Jesus so much that He emphasised it over and over again.

Over 300 times, sin was mentioned in the Bible. Sin will offer you much, but it will give you nothing. It will promise you everything but will not deliver what it promised you.

I was in my house when I received a phone call, and the person asked, “Is that the G.O. of MFM, Dr. Olukoya?” I said, “Yes, sir. Where are you calling from?” He was calling from America. I asked, “What can I do to help you?” He said, “Man of God, you see, I want to stay in this country, but I do not have papers that will make me stay”.

I replied, “Well, if you do not have papers, come back home.” He said, “No, you do not understand. I have been here for 12 years. I cannot come home just like that.” I retorted, “So what are you trying to tell me?” He then said, “I have found an American woman who promised to fake a marriage with me, so I can be a citizen. She is asking for 5,000 dollars. Man of God, is it a sin if I pay this money?” I asked, “But are you not married?” He said yes, that his wife was in Nigeria.

I said, “You cannot do it; it is a sin. Do not do it.” He said, “You do not understand”. I said, “It is you who do not understand.” He said, “Okay, I will call you back.” I did not hear from him for a while. He called again one morning and said, man of God, on that woman I told you about, I have paid the money. Now she is insisting that if I do not sleep with her, she will not sign the papers, and that was not the agreement before.” I said, “Do not do it.” He said, “But I talked to some pastors here, sir, and they said that since it is just once, I can do it and ask God to forgive me.”

I said, “No, that is wrong.” He said, “But that is what most people here do.” He listened to those pastors there and did not listen to me. But what he did not know at that time was that the American lady had HIV/AIDS. He slept with that lady. As I am talking to you now, both the lady and himself are dead. Why? A little sin that refused to remain little.

Sin will promise you everything and give you nothing. You may be laughing at those living holy lives now. Those who laughed at me many years ago in school for living holy are not laughing again now. Now they are struggling to remain alive and do deliverance because they did not listen to me.

Sin is so appealing, but it is a destroyer. Sin will always deaden life and bring about lifelessness. Sin is the dangerous mathematician that can convert a person from one to zero. It has no friends or foes; whatever you sow is what you reap. It will thrill you, kill you, excite you, and then cause woe. It will sweeten and then become sour. It will gratify you, then begin to grind you later.

That is why somebody has said:

  • Men call sin accident; God calls it abomination.
  • Men call sin blunder; God calls it blindness.
  • Men call sin defect; God calls it a disease.
  • Men call sin a chance; God calls it a choice.
  • Men call sin an error; God calls it an enemy.
  • Men call sin fascination; God calls it infirmity.
  • Men call sin luxury; God calls it leprosy.
  • Men call sin a mistake; God calls it madness.
  • Men call sin weakness; God calls it wilfulness.

If you sow any bad thing, you will reap a bad thing. The tragedy of sin is that if you commit sin, God will forgive you, but the consequences of the sin will not be removed. God forgave King David his sin, but he still cursed him all the same. He said, “You have been forgiven, but the sword shall never depart from your house.” It is still happening today. But the horrible thing is this: the psalmist said, “Against thee and thee alone have I sinned and done this evil in thy sight.” Any sin you commit is, first of all, against God.

Try to understand what I am saying here this morning. The consequences of sin are suffered more by God than by anyone else.

WHAT DOES SIN DO TO GOD?

  • It puts a knife into the heart, person, purpose, plan, design, holiness, purity, and righteousness of God.
  • Sin is grieving God’s heart. The Bible says, “The Lord saw the wickedness of man… and it grieved Him at His heart”. If you want to start seeing sin correctly, it is to see that it is primarily against God. He suffers it more than us. The prodigal son got it right. He went to his father. He said, “I have sinned against heaven and against thee.” So he knew that primarily that sin is to God.

Someone who is sinning is re-crucifying Jesus Christ on the cross. As a believer, if you are still sinning, you are giving unbelievers a chance to blaspheme the name of God. Maybe you are a baby husband in this service today, and you are still bashing your wife? You are a wicked soul. You are giving an occasion to unbelievers to blaspheme the name of the Lord. Sin is putting out the fire of the Holy Ghost. You are attempting to overthrow the Almighty. Sin will harm you. When you are knowingly committing sin, you are saying to Satan, “I love you; just continue your operation in my life,” because sin will exalt and glorify Satan.

We all need to be very careful and to recover our lives today from the hands of this very dangerous mathematician. This is a serious matter, and I want you to understand it.

We were trying to evangelise to this prostitute in Kaduna. She laughed at us that day and said, “You, these small boys, you are preaching?” So we just prayed for her, and she left. At 5 a.m. the next day, she was at the door, weeping like a baby and knocking. We asked what happened. She said that immediately after she got home the previous day, she sat down in her chair. A man walked into her room in a white garment and said, “Lady, there is an appointment you must keep.”

She said the creature took her far away; she did not know where they were going. And then this creature took her to a wonderful place with plenty of people singing praises and rejoicing. She said she felt so happy and asked if she could join them. The angel said, “You are not qualified; let me show you where you are qualified for.” And off they went. Then she saw people in fire burning. She saw people hanging with their legs, their lips, and their private parts. She said, “What is this?” The angel replied that it was their instrument of sin while on earth. “This is where you are qualified for, and I shall drop you here now.”

She started begging, “Please, sir, I will repent; I will go back to those pastors.” That was how she landed at our door at 5 a.m. She had seen a small sample of what hell fire is. The Bible tells us in Isaiah about the location of hellfire in verse 14:9.

Isaiah 14:9 (KJV): “Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.”

So, where is hell? It is from beneath. It is underneath the earth. It is a physical place with an actual location. Something happened not too long ago. A geological group of scientists was drilling a hole in the ground. They drilled 14.4 kilometres into the ground. After some time, they were hearing noises from their equipment. They thought the equipment was bad, but later found out that the noise was not from their equipment.

They found that what they were hearing were screams from the deepest condemned souls in hell. These terrified scientists were afraid to go further. The next thing that shocked them was that the temperature at 14.4 kilometres was over 1100 °Centigrade underneath the earth. The temperature for boiling water is 100 °C. That means underneath is 110 times hotter than normal boiling water, and that was where they were hearing screams from.

They recorded it to come and play it to people. Many of them who never went to church and were not believers began to see that what the Bible is saying is true. The final mathematics of sin is that it will take the person from one to zero and then keep the person eternally in pain, sorrow, and anguish.

PRAYER POINTS.

  1. Father Lord, deliver me from the shackles of sin, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Every power that wants me to perish, lose your hold, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Every arrow fired against my salvation, die in the name of Jesus.
  4. Father, if I am on my way to hellfire, bring me back, in the name of Jesus.
