Topic: BINDING THE STRONGMAN
Text: Luke 11:21-22

Luke 11:21-22 (KJV) says, “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.”

Let me make a few statements before we go on:

• There will be war until the end of this age. Therefore, we Christians must possess our land by dispossessing the enemy.
• We believers should allow God to use us as His battle axe. – We are mandated to destroy the enemy without mercy because mercy is not in the dictionary of the enemy.
• It is the design of the Almighty that on every life, a little bit of rain of trials and tribulations will fall. It is the design of the Almighty that every life will experience one battle or one war. But the beautiful thing is our God is a Man of war. That is why God has war names. ‘King of Kings’ is a description of war. Lord of Lords, Jehovah Nissi, and Mighty Warrior are descriptions of war.

Captain of the Lord’s host and Lion of the tribe of Judah are war names. The Bible says, “The Lord is a Man of war; the Lord is His name.” ‘God is a refuge’ is a war name. ‘Our shield and tower’ is a war name. ‘Our stronghold’ is a description of war; the Lord of hosts is a war name.

The situation is very simple: you either fight or perish. The church of God was actually designed for warfare. The Bible says, “Upon this rock will I build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Spiritual conflict and satanic revival are two of the clearest signs of the last days, and a lot of wickedness is going on around us.

The Bible says that the whole world has a bed they lie on. That bed is called ‘wickedness’. If I slap you and you slap me back, you are not a wicked man because I started it. But when I have not done anything wrong to you and you are fighting me, that is wickedness.

Spiritual conflict and satanic revival are clear signs of the end times, with all kinds of things happening. And I do not want to deceive you as a minister of God. Evil will go from bad to worse before the end. The Bible says, “Evil men and seducers shall wax stronger and stronger.” In our younger days, nobody could come on the television to say, “I am an apostle; I have seven wives, and the more wives I marry, the more power I get.”

Nobody would dare do that. But today, witch doctors are now on screens, all kinds of evil are now everywhere, and courses on witchcraft are being taught. So we believers cannot afford to be civilians when we have war facing us spiritually. The nature of our warfare is based on the nature of our enemy. That is why the Bible says, “Comparing themselves with themselves and measuring themselves by themselves are not wise.” That is why you do not use another person’s battle to determine yours; everyone has different categories of battles to fight. His battle is his; yours is yours. These enemies are unseen and are in large numbers.

They are wicked and totally evil in their purpose. I must explain this to you.

The Bible says, “The dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.” It is wickedness they are doing there. All kinds of terrible things are happening. These evil forces are highly organised, much more organised than many churches, and they are centrally controlled.

The power of the strongman is destructive and malignant. The strongman can use natural forces to do havoc and can even bring diseases and death. The strongman, as the name implies, has an awesome level of power. He has specific locations according to the Bible. He has a house.

He has goods in his possession, and he keeps those goods to ensure that nothing is lost. He has weapons. He has an armoury. He has a wicked agenda to steal, kill and destroy. Therefore, ignorant believers cannot confront the strongman.

Most of the time, the strongman is not at the level of “come out”. They are at the level of what you read in Psalms 2:1-2 (KJV): “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,”

They took counsel against God. That is the level of the strongman. He can operate in the heavenlies. That is why they could stop the answer to Daniel’s prayer. If the warrior angel did not come to assist that messenger angel, the prayer would not be answered, and that is the activity of the strongman.

Like I told you, every locality has its own strongman controlling it, and the strongman is a military personality ready for defensive and offensive warfare. Therefore, the only language he understands is violence. You will need the assistance of a stronger man who is the Lord Jesus to help you deal with the strongman. The Bible makes us understand that binding is an effective weapon to deal with the strongman.

● As you use this weapon, all the strongmen assigned against your destiny shall be destroyed, in the name of Jesus.

The strongman is a thorough destroyer. Mercy is alien to them. They pounce on anyone who comes near their warehouse like guard dogs, and they are very dangerous.

The four most dangerous strongmen in our days are these:

1. The religious demons: they attack people’s beliefs and hide under religion to do havoc.
2. The mental demons: they attack the mind and emotions. A lot of people’s thinking is totally upside down. The enemy has confused them. They cannot even identify who they are because they are so confused.
3. The moral demons are unclean spirits: spirits of wickedness, habits of sin, and sexually seductive spirits.
4. The physical demons: afflicting physical bodies and causing infirmities. If you carefully look through the scriptures, you will see that the scripture outlines about twenty different strong men, but we do not have time for that. But these four are the most dangerous and strongest in our days.

Now, this is where we are going today. A situation could arise where more than one strongman is at work in a person’s life. If you are fighting at one warfront, you can fast and pray some simple prayer points. But when there are about three or five of them and you do not have a good prophet to tell you, “This is battle 1, battle 2, battle 3, battle 4,” and you are just praying general prayers, those general prayers are a way to make the strongman fight you faster.

Some could have the spirit of suicide in them, coupled with the spirit of heaviness and the spirit of death and hell fighting the same person. It is a problem when there are multiple strongmen in charge of a person’s life.

And God, in His mercy and wisdom, runs a school in the night called “The school of dreams” because most people are so busy, they have no time for anything else. The only time God can talk to them is in their dreams.

So if you begin to dream of snakes, dead relatives, having sex, roaming about until you wake up, masquerades, hair loss, fighting unknown people, powers suffocating you on your bed, getting married, wandering, taking exams, or being pursued by birds or other animals, these are indications that there is a strongman in charge of something in your life and you need to deal with it. If you start seeing yourself swimming in rivers in the dream when you cannot swim physically, you find yourself naked or see cobwebs flying all over the place in your dream, it is evidence that there is a strongman affecting the works of your hands.

All forms of profitless hard work and fruitless effort show that there is a strongman in place.

My daddy used to have a friend who, after retiring from government work, put all his money together and started a bakery, and he was baking very good bread down the street. If you entered into that street, you would know that there is a bakery there due to the aroma of bread wafting through the air. Now on that same street, there was another bakery. The owner of that bakery did not care so much about the quality of his bread. In fact, he used palm wine to ferment his bread while others were using yeast. But do you know what? People would not go to that my father’s friend to buy from him. They would come to this inferior store and buy bread even when it was more expensive. They abandoned his own place because there was a strongman assigned to that bakery that it would not do well.

This is why I want you to get angry in your spirit and shout this prayer loud and clear before the angels that are moving about will depart.

Shout this with all your might:
● Strongman saying I will not go far, you are a liar, die, in the name of Jesus.
● Strongman saying my joy will not be full; die, in the name of Jesus.
● Father, in the name of Jesus, I come before you now. Because I know that it is written that no weapon formed against me shall prosper and it is written that oppression shall be far away from me, therefore I stand on the covenant of the blood of Jesus, and I decree that the strongman of my father’s house and the strongman of my mother’s house be bound now, in the name of Jesus.

These strongmen can sometimes be recognised by their children. For example, the spirit of death and hell is a strongman. He has children who are sicknesses, pain, heart problems, spirit of infirmity, spirit of guilt, spirit of condemnation, curses, spirit of suicide, and the spirit of fear.

I was talking to some people on Wednesday, and I asked them, Why is it that Jesus prayed at the tomb of Lazarus in two different ways? When he told them, “Lazarus shall live again,” they said, “My Lord, he has been dead for four days.” Jesus then raised up his eyes to the heavens and said, “Father, I thank you because you always answer my prayers.” He talked to His father gently and reverently. All of a sudden, he turned to the tomb, and the Bible says, “He cried with a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come forth!’” Why the change? It is because he was now dealing with the spirit of death and hell, which is a strongman. There is a room for quiet prayers, meditative prayers, warfare prayers, praise and worship.

There is a strongman called the spirit of addiction which has totally captured the world. Its children include overeating, craving food and sweets, bondage to tobacco of all kinds, bondage to nicotine, and bondage to alcohol of all kinds. If you are in this meeting tonight and still drinking alcohol, I feel so sorry for you because it means the strongman is still in charge of your life. If you are still drinking and you want to fight household wickedness, you want to fight the strongman in charge of your house; you cannot defeat any problem because you yourself have been caged. You have to be free from them. You may say, “Oh, I do not drink, but I just have those drinks in my freezer or fridge to serve my friend who drinks.” The Bible says, “Woe unto him who gives his neighbour drink.” No. Get rid of it.

The more it is in that place, the more of an invitation it is to demons. Demons will be visiting you, and you are just compounding the problem. More of the children of addiction include: blackout, confusion, dullness of hearing, and bondage to drugs like marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and tranquillizers. The reason it is more difficult to get out of is because it is a strongman. The reason rehabilitation centres are struggling is not because of those drugs. What they are fighting is the strongman, and for complete deliverance of those people to take place, they need Jesus. They need deliverance. A good rehabilitation centre will have a deliverance centre too. If you do not have it, you are just wasting your time because you cannot fight the strongman using medicine. It is not possible.

Another strongman is the spirit of lust. The spirit of lust has children: sexual spirits that enter through the eyes and ears, masturbation, sexual dreams, diversion of all kinds, sexual confusion, oral sex, anal sex, fornication, adultery, rape, incest, harlotry, and prostitution. And the reason the battle against them is so hard is because it is a strongman. Jesus said that the strongman is strong. So sometimes, it is easier to deliver a witch than a fornicator because of the strongman in charge. Another strongman is anger.

Children of anger include temper, contention, fighting, murder, destruction, vandalism, malice, envy, resentment, bitterness, jealousy, and pride. Now, if you are in this meeting and anger is still in your life, you need more than deliverance. You need overhauling because in the school of deliverance, anger spirits are called door keepers.

Once you get angry, the door of your life is left open.

Then all kinds of spirits will be coming in. It is so easy to control anger. Anytime you are angry, do not talk. If you do not talk, the anger will die stillborn. But if you keep talking, it will keep increasing.

This is why there is so much marital strife. One party is talking; the other party is responding. Then it goes on and on and becomes a strongman. Another strongman is the ancestral spirit, spirits of people’s ancestors. And like I tell people, your parentage will determine the battle you will fight. It were the parents of the Israelites who went to Egypt, but it was now their duty as children to get out. They did not take themselves there, but now they had to get out. This world is full of troubled people. There are singular problems; there are multiple problems that are not easy to handle. You have to be able to fight.

HOW DO YOU NOW DEAL TOTALLY WITH THE STRONGMAN?

YOU NEED TO:

1. Repent from every known sin.
2. Identify the strongman and his seat in your life. You need to sit down and think, “Which strongman is in charge of my life? Which strongman is in charge of my case?” You need to sit down and identify them.
3. Identify the armour of the strongman. When we talk about the whole armour of God, we mean the characteristics God wants to establish in us, to develop us and enable us to work for Him and not let Satan work in us. Put on the whole armour of God. The whole armour of Satan is the opposite. It allows Satan to work in and prevents God from working in us. Instead of truth, there will be lies, deceit, and hypocrisy. Instead of peace, there is strife, contention, and argument. Instead of righteousness, there is rejection, unfaithfulness, and unrighteousness. Instead of faith, there is doubt, suspicion, fear, and mistrust.

Instead of hope, there is despair, frustration, rejection, and depression. Instead of the word of God, there is human reasoning and logic. Instead of prayer, there is prayerlessness and occultic meditation. If you take away the armour of the strongman in which he trusteth, to deal with him becomes easy. This is where people miss it.

HOW DO YOU TAKE AWAY THE ARMOUR OF THE STRONGMAN?

• By getting rid of enslaving habits and sin.
• Repent from your sin.
• Reorder your thoughts.
• Deal with the stronghold of sin.
• Deal with your sins. That is how you identify and deal with the armour of the strongman. So as far as you are living in sin, you have enslaving habits, you are doing all kinds of things you should not do, and you still have the armour of the strongman working against you.

1. Declare spiritual war on the strongman.
2. Bind the strongman. The Bible makes it clear that no man can enter into the house of the strongman and plunder his goods without first binding the strongman. What does it mean to bind? People just say “I bind you” without really understanding. The Bible says, “Whatsoever is bound on earth is bound in heaven.” The initiative must first start from here. What you bind is what heaven will sign. You bind nothing? Heaven signs nothing. What does it mean to bind? It means almost ten things. It is a strong word indeed.

To bind is:

1. To stagnate: Keep it where it is. It is not going forward.
2. To polarise. You decide the direction.\
3. To paralyse so it does not move.
4. To strangle.
5. To take captive.
6. To entangle.
7. To tie: you tie as an animal from head to feet.
8. To make it hard for somebody to move.
9. To have a controlling effect.
10. To yoke.

When you say “I bind you”, it is a heavy prayer. When Jesus said, “No man can enter the house of the strongman without first binding him,” that is what Jesus meant. That is why it is not a prayer you pray like a gentleman; it will not work at all. After you have bound the strongman, you can now spoil his goods. That spoiling too means six things.

To spoil means:

1. To strip the arms of your enemy.
2. To cease.
3. To snatch away.
4. To carry off as spoil.
5. To lead captive.
6. To cease by force.
7. To strip a garment off up to the point of complete nakedness.

So it is a great prayer when you say, “I bind the strongman and I spoil his goods.” You need holy anger, holy madness, holy stubbornness, holy cry, violent faith and bulldozing prayers.

If you want to possess the house of the strongman, bind him, hold him captive, go into his territory and recover what the enemy has stolen from you, then you need to be serious with the matter.

PRAYER POINTS.
[Before Message]

1. Strongman of my father’s house, I bind you now, in the name of Jesus.

[After Message]

1. Powers that must disappear for my miracle to manifest, disappear by fire, in the name of Jesus.
2. Strongman assigned against my brain, you are a liar, die, in the name of Jesus.
3. Any power assigned to harden my problems; your time is up; die, in the name of Jesus.
4. Strongman that wants me to expire before my testimonies, die, in the name of Jesus.
5. Strongman blocking my way: I bind you, I spoil you, in the name of Jesus.
6. Strongman keeping me on the same level, before I leave this place: die, in the name of Jesus.
7. Arrows of the strongman, backfire, in the name of Jesus.
