Topic: BY HIS NAME, ‘JAH’
Text: Psalms 68:4
Minister: Dr. Daniel Olukoya (G.O. MFM Worldwide)
Psalms 68:4 (KJV) says, “Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.”
Can you raise up your right hand where you are and shout three hot times:
- By your name, JAH, let my heavens open!
- By your name, JAH, let my stubborn enemies flee!
- By your name JAH, let me possess my possession!
I have stylishly taught you a serious prayer point: “By His name, JAH”.
The name JAH is one of the most ancient and sacred names of God found in the scriptures. It is derived from the Hebrew word ‘Jah’, which is a shortened form of ‘Yahweh’ or ‘Jehovah’. This means God is self-sufficient.
Yahweh is the way by which God identified Himself to Moses in the burning bush, the covenant name of God, when He said, “I am that I am.” “Jah” means “God depends on no one”, and that shorter form of “Jehovah” called “Jah” is what the psalmist used to celebrate the majesty and power of God, calling Him “Jah who rides upon the heavens”, showing His supremacy over all creation.
So the name JAH is not just a relic of the past. It reveals God’s supremacy; that He has no beginning and no end. The name reveals the sovereign power of God. He is riding upon the heavens, yet He is dwelling among His people. This means that every time JAH arises, the enemies scatter. Can you say:
- By your name, JAH, let my stubborn enemies scatter. (Shout it three times.)
So JAH is the unchanging One whose nature and purpose remain constant forever. So the reason the psalmist is using that word is to magnify the holiness and mightiness of God. It is to declare the eternal sovereignty of God. “…who rideth upon the heavens by His name JAH.”
The psalmist used that name to invoke divine presence in worship and warfare, to exalt the covenant-keeping nature of God, to express confidence in God’s unfailing power, and to proclaim the supremacy of God over men, idols, spirits, and forces.
There is no force, power, personality, or spirit of any dimension who can contest with the power of God. That JAH is your God, and it is unto Him we are praising today.
JAH reveals the power of God that scatters the enemy and totally confuses the wicked. It is actually a sound of deliverance. It manifests the power of God in impossible situations when you call His name. It separates light from darkness when you begin to invoke that name.
So technically, JAH is a weapon of deliverance. It draws a line the enemy cannot cross. It seals our prayers with heavenly authority. It announces that no other name can stand before JAH. It silences every opposition of darkness. It activates the fire of God over every demonic forces.
Can you close your eyes and raise up your right hand again and seven hot times, under the anointing of God that is glorious in holiness and fearful in praises, shout:
- By your name, JAH, O God, arise: let my way open, in the name of Jesus.
- By your name, JAH, O God, arise, and let my enemies be scattered, in the name of Jesus.
