Topic: THE WICKED MARRIAGE
Text: Romans 6:16, 1 Corinthians 9:27, Luke 9:27
Minister: Dr. Daniel K. Olukoya (G.O. MFM Worldwide)
This morning, we are looking at what I call “The Wicked Marriage.” And we are going to be reading four scriptures. Please take careful note of these scriptures.
Romans 6:16 (KJV) says, “Know ye not that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey; the servants ye are to whom ye obey: whether of sin unto death or of obedience unto righteousness.”
Are you following what the Bible is saying? To whom you yield yourself to be obeying is to become a servant of that person. So listen: if you are obeying sin, you are killing yourself.
1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV) says, “But I keep under my body and bring it into subjection, lest that by any means, after I have preached unto others, I myself should be a castaway.”
This is Paul saying this, meaning that if you do not bring your body under control, you will go to hellfire. You could speak in tongues, you could be a prophet or an apostle, you could work signs and wonders, your father could be a bishop, your father could be a prophet, you could come from a family of pastors, you could display signs and wonders, and you could prophesy. But if you do not bring that body under control, hellfire.
So this is what is responsible for “Lord, did we not cast out spirits, demons? Did we not heal the sick in your name?” And Jesus would say, “Yes, you did.” “Did I not sing for you in church?” “You did.” “I do not know you because you refused to bring that body under subjection.”
The Bible makes us understand that there is a battle on between the flesh and the spirit. They are battling each other. There is a boxing match between flesh and spirit. This is the secret of fasting. When you fast, the body gets weak so that the spirit can rise.
That is the mystery of fasting. The spirit and the flesh are always in battle. Jesus now gave a damning, terrible, devastating, acidic conclusion on the flesh. He said, “The flesh profited nothing.” Nothing. It is vanity. There is nothing.
Luke 9:23 (KJV) says, “And he said unto them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
There is a wicked marriage:
- that has demoted so many destinies.
- that makes a man to run around in circles like a dog.
- that has dragged men into the den of destruction.
- that has dragged men into the den of vanity.
- that has dragged men into the den of poverty.
- that has dragged men into the den of demotion.
Beloved, there is a wicked marriage that has turned winners to failures.
- It has turned fertile lands to desert.
- It has turned results into insult.
- It has turned a gold mine to a dustbin.
- It has turned deliverance to disturbance. You say you are doing deliverance. But you are just causing a disturbance.
There is a wicked marriage that has turned celebrity into a dungeon, built a castle of backwardness for so many people, that brings failure out of certain success, that paralyses potential. There is a wicked marriage that has the power to take you from extraordinary to ordinary and that triggers supernatural decrease.
There is a professor in the school of converting somebody to nobody that has buried multiple talents and has moved people from grace to grass. This wicked marriage has published the greatest number of obituaries, has turned winners to executive losers, and brought failure where success should be the norm.
WHAT IS THIS WICKED MARRIAGE?
It is the marriage between flesh and demons. They are married like this. Why? Demons require permission to operate. The flesh gives them the permission. Demons are like aeroplanes, aircraft.
The flesh is like the landing space at the airport. If you do not provide that landing space, they do not land. If you do not give them permission, they do not raid your life.
When you pamper Mr. Flesh, instead of bringing it into subjection like Paul said, then demons are empowered.
One man wrote this poem. He said:
“Lord, sever me from myself.
that I may be grateful to you.
Lord, may I perish to myself
so that I may be safe in you.
Lord, may I die to myself
that I may live in you.
Lord, may I wither to myself
that I may blossom in you.
Lord, may I be emptied of myself
and abound in you,
Lord, may I be nothing to myself
and may be all in you.”
Mr. Flesh is the greatest enemy in our camp. Mr. Flesh has done so much damage. So much damage that you need to work hard to get rid of what the damage has done. The flesh may not be visible, but it is real. That flesh is in contrast with, and rivalry with, the spirit. Mr Flesh is like a person dwelling within. You may not see him face to face. Mr. Flesh dwells in the heart. He controls, he enforces, he occupies. Mr. Flesh dwells within the heart; he controls, he enforces, he occupies, he dictates, he whispers, and he will fight, but all within.
The reason you are getting angry is because there is a demon of anger inside your flesh. You say, “But they annoyed me.” If you say you are not a thief, it is when you have access to steal money and you do not steal it that we will know.
If you say you do not get angry, it is when they upset you and you do not get angry that you will truly know. When the anger is like that, it is what is inside that comes out.
In 1985, I went to greet a brother in his office. I did not tell him I was coming. The brother is a big man. So I arrived at his office. I sat at the reception. Then his receptionist and the messenger were talking. They said, “Let us wind him up this morning.” That was what they were planning to do. I was listening to them. So they went inside and said, “Excuse me, sir. That file you said we should look for is lost. We cannot find it.” The brother lost his temper, shouting and screaming; his body was vibrating. He was so angry. So he was boiling and boiling.
He was so angry that he did not even see me sitting down. After some time, the same receptionist and messenger said, “Okay, let us calm him down.” They said, “We have found the file.” Then he said, “That is better.” His body then stopped shaking. That is a demon of anger. Mr. Flesh in complete control. Mr Flesh is an enemy within. It is that part of man which is in rebellion to God.
A man was sacked from five jobs. The wife ran off. The first girl got pregnant in school. He was in big trouble. So he believed that the whole world was against him. He cried unto the Lord in desperate prayers. He said, “Father, arise, fight my battle. Oh God, arise. Let my enemies be scattered. Fight my battles. “On day one, he did not see anything. On day two, he did not see anything.
On day three, the Lord appeared to this man. The man was happy to see that angelic appearance. So he was expecting the Lord to sympathise with him. He wanted the Lord to promise him deliverance from all his trouble. He wanted the Lord to kill all those people who made life difficult for him. He wanted fairness, understanding, and justice.
To his amazement, the Lord pointed at him and spoke to him. “My son, your problem is rooted in you and not the enemy. Son, this is the hardest part of your Christian life. You are not willing to admit that you are the problem. You only deceive yourself by blaming the devil for what you are going through.”
“Listen: I am the Almighty God. I am not struggling with the devil. What I want from you is that your flesh must be in submission to my spirit. I want to dethrone you from the centre of your life and be your Lord. You must contend with the power of your flesh. Your flesh is the one hindering me from walking in your life.” He asked incredulously, “Lord, you are not going to kill my enemies? Look at what they have done.” The Lord said, “Your flesh is what provided the landing space for them to do what they have done.”
He said, “I do not understand.” The Lord replied, “Okay. Do you not keep malice?” He said, “It is with my senior brother.” The Lord retorted, “That is malice. Do you not do masturbation?” He replied, “Yes, I do it when Madam is not at home.” The Lord said, “True. Do you not escape paying your tithe?” He replied, “Sometimes, I do not pay when the bills are too high.”
The Lord then said, “You see? The devil is not the issue as much as the power of the flesh.” So our toughest battle, beloveth, is with the flesh. And that is why the Bible said, “The works of the flesh are these…” and made a long list. So the devil comes in when we open the door to him through uncrucified flesh. The devil is continually looking for open doors.
Jesus said, “The prince of this world cometh unto me, but he found nothing.” The devil brought his scanning machine and X-ray machine to X-ray and scan Jesus. He found nothing. Jesus was dead to the flesh. That is why Paul said, “I die daily.” Because when the enemy comes to you, they detect the smallest compromise.
They detect the tiniest sin. They detect cleverly concealed habits. The devil will always defeat Christians who live with uncrucified flesh. Demons are looking for houses to dwell in. They are looking for landing spaces.
Any area of your life you do not submit to God will do. It may be your hair. You may be in this church now with an attachment on your hair. It may have travelled down from Bangkok or India, and they have dedicated it to idols.
You put it on your head, and you are praying deliverance prayer and fire prayer. Any area you allow, whether it is your head, your thoughts, your sex life, or even your fingernails, when you are not a vulture and you decide that the fingernails that God made are too short and you go and put talons there.
You decided that your lips were too slim, so you fattened them, and then you changed the colour that God put there. You put multiple holes in your ears. One hole is bad enough.
Any area you open to the enemy, the enemy takes charge. You can be a singer. You could give the enemy your voice to be using. Plenty of those musicians on the street were trained by the churches, but they are now being used by the devil.
They tempted Peter with money. They said, “Take this money. This gift you have, give it to me.” But there was nothing in Peter that would respond to the sensation and temptation of money. When MFM started here, we had only auditorium A here. It was marshy ground; we had sticks as pillars and corrugated iron sheets. We bought the land for 120,000 naira, and that is why those of you who were here then would see just sticks and wooden benches.
And then one man came to see me and said, “Dr. Olukoya, pray for me that I can sleep. I will give you two million naira.” Even if it was 500,000 naira he was giving, we would be so glad because we needed the money. I said, “Sir, keep your two million naira.”
Two million naira in 1994. I said, “The money you have and you cannot sleep; you want to give it to me so that I too will not sleep. I do not want. Even if I want, I do not want.” The man asked me, “So you mean you are rejecting it?” I replied, “Yes.”
A man came here at the time they started selling this big Mercedes-Benz in Nigeria. He brought a new one here. He said, “G.O., I want to sow it into your life.” The Lord said, “Do not take it. Tell him to go and repent of adultery and fornication. When he has repented, tell him to come back.”
So I said, “Sir, I am sorry. I cannot accept this because the Lord says you should go and repent of adultery and fornication.” The man asked, “You mean you are rejecting it?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “They say so, that you are a strange man.”
I said, “Thank you, but I do not want it.” If I was not crucified in that area, that is how I would take it and get into trouble. Peter had allowed God to crucify that area of his flesh.
Flesh is anything that is not energised by the Holy Spirit, and this is where the problem comes. If the flesh craves sexual pleasure, then demons will come in and promote fornication and adultery. If the flesh enjoys seduction, then demons will come in and cause lustful manipulation. If the flesh wants praise, demons will come in and bring in ego and pride.
If the flesh hates correction, demons will come in and bring in stubbornness. If the flesh fears rejection, demons will come in and promote insecurity.
If the flesh loves rebellion, demons will promote immoral acts. If the flesh is always craving wealth, wealth, money, wealth, wealth, wealth, demons will promote covetousness. If the flesh enjoys comparison, demons will breed envy. If the flesh is seeking for instant gain, the demons will trigger fraud.
The reason people get fraudulent is because they want instant gain. If the flesh desires applause, demons will bring in a prideful heart. If the flesh craves revenge, the demon will encourage retaliation. If the flesh reacts in anger, then the demon will promote rage.
If the flesh is always looking for all-round comfort, the demons will encourage laziness. If the flesh fears failure, demons will encourage procrastination.
If the flesh loves luxury, demons will promote greed and materialism. If the flesh desires admiration, demons will bring vanity. If the flesh worries about the future, demons will bring sleeplessness and high blood pressure.
If the flesh worries too much about the opinion of others, the demons will promote people-pleasing activities. If the flesh wants fleshly excitement, demons will encourage alcohol and drug abuse.
If the flesh seeks for body perfection, the demons will encourage cosmetic obsession. If the flesh wants very quick results, the demons will promote occultic shortcuts. That is why we have so many young men now who are into Yahoo fraud and sacrificing very foolish girls who go to them.
If the flesh wants to cover weaknesses, then the demon will encourage deception. If the flesh likes corruption, then the demon of falsehood will come in. If the flesh likes abortion, bloodthirsty demons will come in. If the flesh loves gambling, it links up with the spirit of mammon. If the flesh loves strife, it connects with the demon of strife.
When the flesh loves refusing to submit, the demons activate the spirit of Jezebel. If the flesh loves wasting resources, the demon will encourage poverty.
So you can see the evil marriage between flesh and demons. One provides the aircraft; one provides the landing space. That is why Jesus said, “You want to follow me? You want to follow me? First thing: deny yourself. Take up your cross. Follow me.” Deny yourself. That is, put that flesh under subjection.
Beloveth, there are only three things to do before we start some really serious prayers now:
- We need to crucify that flesh. We need to pray, “Father, get a big nail. Put me on that cross. Nail me to that cross.” Crucifying the flesh means: die to self. Cut off the triggers. Disciple the body. Talk to yourself. The flesh will say, “Do this.” You say, “I am sorry, I am not doing it.” It says, “Get angry,” and you say, “No, I am not drinking. I will not drink.” It says, “Go to this party,” and you say, “I am not going.” It says, “Go and enjoy yourself with strange people,” but you say, “I am not going.” That is what we call crucifying the flesh. It means that when it is giving you instruction, you give a capital No. “But this is free sex now. But the lady is submitting herself freely. Your wife is not here.” “No.” That is how to crucify the flesh. The Bible says, “If you live by the flesh, you will die.” It is death. So the first thing is to crucify the flesh.
- Starve the demons. Starve them of food. Starve them because demons feed on sin. Once sin is out, they will starve. They feed on fear. Once fear is out, they will starve. They feed on ignorance. Once ignorance is out, you starve them. The power of repentance is powerful. Just by repentance, you remove the ladder from the legs of demons. That is why in all deliverance sessions, the first sermon should be repentance. Starve the demons. They feed on sin, fear, and ignorance. Now you starve them with holiness, knowledge of the word of God, and constant prayer.
- Now, submit yourself to the Holy Spirit. The Bible says, “Submit yourself unto God.” It is then you can resist the devil. Submit yourself under the power of God, and then you will be able to resist the enemy.
The prayer of this morning is not a gentleman’s prayer, because the flesh is an enemy in our camp. The flesh is like the olden-days Roman punishment.
In the olden days, if you murdered somebody in the Roman Empire, they would take the person, and they would attach the corpse of the person to the living person. They would attach the hand to the hand, the leg to the leg, and the head to the head. They would tie both of you together. Then they would release you to go so that you are free.
Generally, within a few days the person dies because of the stench of the dead man, the weight of the dead man, and the stress of not being able to sleep or eat because they have been bound together.
The flesh is exactly like that in our camp. No wonder Paul said, “But I bring my body under; I bring it into subjection, lest at any time, after I have preached to others, I might be a castaway.” This is why many pastors will go to hellfire. Many church workers will go to hellfire. It is because they have put flesh on the throne. The reason you are wearing a short skirt and they are seeing everything you wear under it is because of the flesh. Because if there is “crawcraw” or eczema on your legs, you wear a long one. So the reason you are wearing a short one is so that it can be seen, but if it is ugly, you will wear a longer one. So basically, it is the flesh.
PRAYER POINTS.
- Evil marriage between my flesh and demons, break, in the name of Jesus.
- Powers empowering sinful appetite in my life, die, in the name of Jesus.
- Holy Ghost fire, blood of Jesus: crucify my flesh, in the name of Jesus.
- Demons hiding in my habits, pack your load; go, in the name of Jesus.
- Powers that want me to share my destiny with demons, what are you waiting for? Die, in the name of Jesus.
