Topic: SANCTIFIED INSANITY
Text: Hosea 9:7, John 10:20, 2 Kings 9:11

Hosea 9:7 (KJV) says: “The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.”
By the logic of men and considering the thinking capacity of human beings, many things which we should do would be rated as foolish or crazy. You find this all over scriptures. Things that we do look completely abnormal or strange to many. Without this kind of sanctified insanity or holy madness, several things will not be possible; and this is a strange arena. This is a really strange thing.
A man of God was doing his quiet time at 4:00am in the morning one day. All of a sudden, the voice of the Lord came to him and said, “Son, take your Bible, rise up, and go into that forest. When you get to the place I want you to get to, I will ask you to stop.”
He was wondering. He replied, “Lord, but it is dark.” The Lord told him, “You have to go. When you get there, you have to preach a message about the love of Christ inside the forest. After that, go back home.” He thought again: “Forest? Bush? Preaching? To whom?” Anyway, he was a friend of God, so he knew it was dangerous to disobey God.
As he was going, he was laughing at himself and thinking, ‘This is a crazy thing.’ When he got there, he did praises and worship, then he sang this hymn:
“Come, let us all unite and sing,
God is love, God is love,
By heaven and earth their praises ring,
God is love God is love”.
As he sang, his echo was coming back to him. He was still laughing at himself and thinking, “Is this not madness?” Anyway, he opened his Bible to the book of John 3:16, quoted the scripture and preached a message on the love of Christ, still hearing the echo of his voice. He prayed for an unseen congregation and went back home still smiling. He did not know what had happened.
In the evening, when he got to church, a man came to church and began to testify, saying, “This morning, I was tired of life, and I decided to hang myself in the forest. As I went to the forest and was about to hang myself, I started hearing the song, and it was the hymn the man of God sang.
He continued his testimony, saying, “I decided to delay the rope and listened to the message on the love of Christ, and I decided not to kill myself.” The man of God who was listening was physically shaken where he sat. Although he had done a crazy thing, he realised that if he did not do it, he would have arrived at the gates of heaven and be accused of murder. Heavens would accuse him and say, “You refused to go where you were sent to because you thought what we told you to do was mad.”
This kind of trend is what the Bible is talking about. Thinking about what the man did logically does not make any sense. Imagine going to the forest to preach to an unknown congregation.
“….The prophet is a fool; the spiritual man is mad….” Listen very carefully, beloveth. We are still going somewhere. See Moses by the Red Sea with Pharaoh at the back, mountains here, valleys there, and the Red Sea at the front, and what was the message? “Stand still and see what God will do here today.” Scientifically, what Moses was saying was impossible. It does not make sense. It is foolish and crazy. The same Moses said, “Lord, they want water.” God replied, “What is that in your hand?” He answered, “A rod.” And God said, “Strike the rock,” which he did, and water came out. It is foolish, crazy and not sensible.
Look at the battle Gideon fought against a whole nation. He tried and mustered 32,000 soldiers, but God said, ‘These people you have gathered here cannot win the battle. Eventually, He selected only 300 people. How can 300 soldiers face another nation with that number and win? Remembering that Midian was a massive army. Logically, there was no sense in that.
Look at the story of Elisha and Naaman. Elisha did not bother coming out to meet Naaman; he just sent a message to him to go and dip himself in the River of Jordan seven times and he would be made whole.” That treatment does not make sense at all. This is a very serious matter.
When the wall of Jericho, the strongest wall in those days, was about to fall, they were shouting and marching around it until that wall fell. It did not make sense. What are we trying to say this morning? You must take steps and actions that will make people say, “You are mad.”
No great man or woman has ever been understood by their generation. They call them mad people. Did they not call Jesus a madman? Did they not call Paul a mad man? It was because their behaviour was out of line with what they were expecting to happen. We are going somewhere this morning.
John 10:20 (KJV) says: “And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him?”
That was Jesus they were talking about. They said, “He is possessed and mad.” They were talking to Jesus like that because “…the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad…” When you want to be who God wants you to be, sometimes you talk in a way that the people of the world call you a madman or a fool.
When you begin to declare your victory and harvest in advance when everyone knows you do not have them yet, then you will be seen as talking like a fool, a mad person. So you must declare your victory and harvest in advance. You must, with your own mouth, say very great things about yourself, your children, and your family. When you say it, people will look at you and say, “Are you alright?”
Let people look at you and declare that you are out of your mind because of the pronouncements you are making. If I jump off the pulpit now and walk up to three people and tell each of them, “Within one week, you are becoming a billionaire,” the people may say, “Ahn, ahn? Me that has just five naira. What is he talking about?” That is why they call a prophet a fool.
Someone says, “I am pregnant, and it is the twelfth month. I feel a movement, but I cannot see a baby; the scan says, ‘No baby.’ And a man of God stands before the woman and says, ‘Within 48 hours, you will have twins.’ The doctors will say, ‘He is mad; he is not okay; this is crazy.’
Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Call on the name of your God, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the God that answers by fire, let him be God.” Before that time in the Bible, no one ever brought fire down, and Elijah was talking about bringing down fire. That was very crazy. Then when those prophets called the god of Baal and they did not get any answer, when nothing happened, Elijah mocked them.
Beloveth, this is how we should deal with kidnappers and those who think they have juju. We should tell them, “Continue the incantations. Is that what you want to say? I cancel it.” He mocked them, telling them that they should call on their god, that maybe he was sleeping or on a journey.
He gave them from 11:00am to 5:00pm. When they had tried, he now did a crazy thing. He arranged wood and began to pour water. Imagine expecting fire and wetting the wood. Very crazy, but he got victory. The lady at the prayer meeting for Peter, whose mind was on the prayer when they were all praying, “O God, release Peter!” heard the knock and went to check. When he came, they did not believe. The woman whose name was Rhoda said, ‘Peter is at the door; stop this prayer.’ ” They replied, “No. You are mad. How can prayer be answered that quickly?”
2 Kings 9:11 (KJV) says: “Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said unto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellow to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man, and his communication.”
A prophet had come to deliver a message to Jehu. But they called the prophet a mad fellow. It is abnormal to be normal in an abnormal world. If you are normal, you do not get anywhere. This is the situation; understand it carefully.
As a small boy in Akure, when people planted fruit trees and they did not want people to pluck the fruits, they would hang fetish items on them so once you got there and saw it, you would not touch it because you were afraid of the power. Sometimes the mango will be so ripe that it will enter your eyes, but that thing will not let you move close to it.
But one day, a madman entered our street, and I was watching him. He went to the mango tree and started laughing. He took the fetish item, converted it to a belt and began to pluck the mangoes and started eating them. Nothing happened to him; he did not die.
There are some characters of the madman believers need to learn. In our church I used to go to as a young boy, the richest person had a Raleigh bicycle. Nobody had a car. Then one brother, an Igbo man, joined our church. Amos did not understand one word of the Yoruba language, but he fell in love with the way we used to pray. We do everything in Yoruba. The only thing we did not do in Yoruba was breathing. He did not understand anything during the message, but during prayers, he would become a changed man.
When they called prayer in Yoruba, Brother Amos would ask his neighbour for the meaning, and once he got the interpretation, he would start praying violently. Every part of his body would be praying.
The man was mad with the prayers. But we who were the indigenous members were praying in a gentle manner. They would call another prayer, and he would ask his neighbour, “Wetin them talk?” As he got the interpretation, he would start again. So if you took a film of all of us and watched it, you would wonder, ‘Is that man okay? Is he not mad?’
It is not like the modern-day man and woman that come to church with stylish headgear that should not be disturbed and perfume that should not sweat.
This continued for a while. One Sunday, we were in church when Brother Amos drove in with a new Mercedes-Benz. We asked him, “What happened?” He replied, “After our prayer last night, I got home and continued praying. When I slept and woke up, God said, ‘Son, due to the violence of your prayers and your ‘enough is enough’ spirit, I have removed what is disturbing your breakthrough today. Look under your pillow.’”
He lifted his pillow, and there was a dead agama lizard. The Lord said, “This was inside of you. With this inside of you, you cannot prosper.” That day when he got to work, things changed. Promotion and everything was backdated with a car, house and all.
All because someone decided to go mad with the devil. God did not deceive us. One of the most powerful messages I have ever heard is about the madness of God. When the person started talking, I began to wonder what he was talking about. Why did God choose the Jews? They were just three million out of one hundred and ten million Arabs. The person kept saying, “Why does God go to where He is not wanted, and where He is wanted, He will not go?” He said, “Why is divine mathematics different from normal mathematics? In the mathematics of men, for example, the way to get rich is to grab, take, steal, dupe, withhold, and keep, but God’s arithmetic says, “Give”, “sow”, “scatter”, and “sponsor”, and you will be rich?
He is the One that says “to die is to rise”, “weakness is strength”, “losing is winning”, and “to be a slave is to be free”. It is time to wake up the soldier in you. If the enemy has stolen from you, recovery is by force. When there is no war, there is no peace. When you get angry with your state, things will change. Some disagree with their present state but are not yet mad with it.
If you do not cry out, it will remain the way it is. You need boldness and violence in prayers. “….The prophet is a fool; the spiritual man is mad.”
