Topic: O GOD OF SIGNS AND WONDERS, ARISE!
Text: John 4:48, Isaiah 7:14, 11, Acts 4:29–31.
Minister: Dr. Daniel Olukoya (G.O. MFM Worldwide)
There is an important prayer we need to pray for ourselves this morning.
John 4:48 (KJV) says: “Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.”
Signs and wonders are events that involve an immediate and powerful action of God. That is why they are called signs and wonders. Signs and wonders are events designed to reveal the character and purposes of God.
It is in the character of God to bring forth signs and wonders. It is the purpose of God to bring forth signs and wonders.
I see somebody here this morning; you shall experience the God of signs and wonders, in the name of Jesus.
What is a sign?
- an unexpected divine action.
- An action that points people to God and brings belief in God.
- A miraculous activity.
- An extraordinary occurrence that will cause unbelievers to change their minds about you.
I am praying for somebody here today: the Lord shall visit you today, in the name of Jesus.
I was sharing a testimony here about a woman who used to come for corridor prayers. For seventeen years, she had no child, and she kept coming for corridor prayers. I used to encourage her, “Do not cry; your miracle is on the way.” A few months ago, she came by and told me, “G.O., God has done it.” I said ‘good’. And I advised her on what to do.
Here in Nigeria, they looked at her and said that she would have twins. But by the time she travelled abroad, she was told that they were quadruplets.
The white doctor was panicking because he asked them, “How much money do you have?” They said they did not have much. The doctor said, “You do not have much money, and you have four babies. When babies are many like that in the womb, they are going into the incubators when they are born. So who will pay for them?” The sister said, “God will take control.” She gave birth to the four children, and they were three girls and one boy.
By the second day, all four were okay. None of them went into any incubators. That is what we call a sign. This doctor, who did not believe in Jesus, began to say, “Yes, it is prayer.”
Something will happen in your life that will make unbelievers change their minds, in the name of Jesus.
The Bible says in Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
Meaning that the impossible will become possible. How can a virgin conceive when she has not slept with anyone? But God said that the impossible would become possible.
God shall add miracles to your miracles, breakthroughs to your breakthroughs, power to your power, and the impossible shall become possible, in the name of Jesus.
Moses appeared in the desert, and he watched that burning bush. After God had spoken to him, he asked God, “These people that I am going to see, if they ask me for a sign, what sign will I show them?” and the Lord said, “What is that in your hand?” He said “a rod,” and the Lord said “throw it down.” He threw it down, and the Lord said, “That is a sign. If they do not believe that sign, show them another sign.”
Elijah stood on Mount Carmel at that showdown between himself and the prophets and asked, “Why are you halting between two opinions? If God is God, serve him. If Baal is God, serve him. But let two animals be given to us; let them be cut into pieces, and let them call on the name of their God. I will call on the name of the Lord. The God that answereth by fire, let him be God.”
That fire coming down from heaven was a sign. And then, when we got to the book of Mark, the Bible says, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”
No wonder the Bible says something in Isaiah 7, which is very interesting indeed.
Isaiah 7:11 (KJV): “Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.”
No wonder the Bible encourages us to ask God for a sign. No wonder the Bible says, “Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders.” The Bible says that whoever asks, receives. If you ask for a sign, you receive it. If you do not ask, you do not receive. Let somebody raise their right hand where they are now and shout this loud and clear:
Signs from heaven that will mesmerise my enemies, appear in the name of Jesus.
So the first point you should pick is that it is in order and scriptural for God to show you a sign so that people know that you are a child of God. What is a wonder?
- an event that cannot be explained by the laws of nature.
- Something unusual that causes the beholder to marvel.
- Something that causes you to wonder.
- God’s special act that cannot be explained or duplicated.
- Something far superior to anything formally recognised or seen.
That is why one of the most powerful praise and worship songs we have, which I want you to raise your voice and sing now, is:
Who is like unto thee, O LORD,
Who is like unto thee, O LORD,
among the gods? who is like thee?
glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
The Bible tells us that God is a God who doeth wonders (Exodus 15:11).
God is a God who doeth great wonders. Psalm 136:4 says: To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever.
God can multiply signs and wonders (Exodus 7:3). He multiplied signs and wonders in Egypt; that is, He will do miracles that will give birth to other miracles.
The Bible says that God can do great things past finding out and wonders without number. You find that in the book of Job.
The Bible says that God does great signs and wonders (Daniel 4:3).
The Bible says that God can smite with wonders (Exodus 3:20). He smote Bar Jesus with wonders. He smote Nebuchadnezzar with wonders. He smote Gehazi with wonders.
Every stubborn witchcraft gathered against you, your God shall smite them with wonders, in the name of Jesus.
The Bible says that God can make you a wonder (Psalms 7:7). People now look at you and open their mouths, and ask, “How manage?”
The Bible tells us that Jesus, our Lord, has one name called ‘Wonderful’. Wonderful means full of wonders.
The Bible says God works signs and wonders that deliver and rescue. (Daniel 6:20).
The Bible says we can pray for signs and wonders.
There is a report of man. There is a report of the lawyers, the doctors, and the consultants, but there is also a report of the Lord. That is why that song asks, “Which report will you believe?” Then you reply with “I will believe the report of the Lord.” The Bible encourages us to pray for signs and wonders. Remember, whoever asks, receives. Whoever knocks, the door shall be opened to him.
Acts 4:29–30 (KJV) says: “And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.”
That was the prayer point of the apostles. What was the result of the prayers?
Acts 4:31 (KJV): “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.”
Them asking for signs and wonders shook the building. Unfortunately, we are in a generation that is trying to redefine God and restrict Him to a test tube. Unfortunately, we have many Christians who are suffering from chronic unbelief. The Bible says, “They that know their God shall be strong and do exploits.”
It is impossible to completely search out the greatness of God. If you look at this universe alone, the complexity, the diversity, and the size alone shows the power of a great God. This is a very serious matter.
But the bottom line is that we serve an awesome God. So it is an insult to Jehovah when you say you are a child of Jehovah but you do not have faith in Jehovah that He can deliver to the uttermost. And anytime in the Bible that somebody verbalises his doubt, he gets into trouble.
When Elisha said, “There would be food in Israel,” that person who was by the king said, “It is not possible.” Elisha said, “You will see it, but you will not eat.” When Zechariah said, “It is not possible,” Gabriel said, “You will be dumb and unable to speak.” When some people said, “God is a God of the mountains and not of the valley,” God got angry with them. God can draw a straight line with your crooked line.
God can convert somebody to nobody, and nobody to somebody. The Bible says God can make high; He can make low.
He can make dead; He can make alive. He can convert a zero into a hero. God can work with or without raw materials. God can create a new organ if it is not in position. God can work a miracle with something or with nothing. In fact, with God, nothing is something. If what you desire is not available, God can create it. God can create a nonentity to an entity. And there is no power or energy that can equal the energy and power of God.
This morning, I want you, with that faith in your heart, to focus on any situation the enemy is using to trouble your life and then call upon the God of signs and wonders, believing Him for an instant touch in your life. Call upon Him, and then believe that He has heard and begin to act as if you have received your answer. That is what we call “Faith.”
PRAYER POINTS.
[Before Message.]
- Power of God, trouble my troubles by fire, in the name of Jesus.
[After Message.]
- O God of signs and wonders, manifest your power in my life, in the name of Jesus.
- My Father, smite my enemies with negative wonders, in the name of Jesus.
