Topic: THE MINISTRY OF BLOOD DELIVERANCE (12)
Sub-topic: THE MYSTERIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS
Text: Colossians 1:20, Leviticus 16:11-14, 19, Exodus 12:21-23
Minister: Dr. Daniel Olukoya (GO MFM Worldwide)
Colossians 1:20 (KJV) says, “And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.”
There are different types of blood. But the blood of Jesus, the Son of God, which He shed on the cross when He died, has deep mysteries which man cannot completely unravel.
These mysteries have generated a lot of things. All the writings and sermons people are preaching are as though they are just peeping into that mystery. The most rigorous and painstaking Bible study, the hardest Bible research, and trying to look at the mysteries of the blood of Jesus are just people peeping into that mystery. Every blood in general is sacred, so sacred that God forbids shedding of innocent blood. He says categorically, “If you shed blood, your own blood will be shed.”
Even the blood of animals is not to be eaten; talk less of human blood. Now, how much more sacred is the blood of the spotless and sinless son of God, Jesus Christ?
The blood of Jesus:
- is the blood of His pain and agony so that you and I can be free from pain and agony.
- is the blood of his reproach. They mocked Him, derided Him, and reproached Him so that you and I can escape reproach.
- is His surrender to the will of God. He said, “Not my will, but thy will be done.”
- is His humiliation and suffering.
- signifies His death to pay our debt.
- has been shed a long time ago.
- can never expire.
- avails and prevails always.
This is why the redeemed of the Lord are always grateful that they are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. That blood is the costly price the Lamb paid for our salvation. That is why the devil has put a high cost on the head of everyone to get them into hellfire.
You cannot jump or fly over the blood of Jesus. If you do, you plunge yourself into eternal disaster. We all come into the world by our mother’s blood, but that blood cannot recover your virtues or save you from tragedy and disaster.
You can only overcome by the Messiah’s blood. It is that blood that we sing about and our enemies sink. That blood is the seal that validates our salvation. No one is good enough without the blood of Jesus helping the person, and no one is too bad for the blood of Jesus to cleanse.
It is the divine ink that writes our names in the book of life. It is that pool of mercy without which every life will be messy. That blood is the mystery that makes you master over dark powers. To reject the blood is to travel by express road into prolonged trouble.
The blood of Jesus is the only acceptable remedy for sin. That is what reconciles us back to God.
So for every believer, the blood of Jesus is not a common toy; it is not a plaything or just a religious thing. It is the most sacred object of our faith. It is therefore a tragedy when you are joking with the blood of Jesus. Do not use it in vain; do not joke with it. The blood of Jesus is that which justifies and qualifies us to enter into the presence of God.
The blood of Jesus is what secures our priesthood, and it is a very, very serious matter. So the price that the Son of God paid for the salvation of our souls is the shedding of His precious blood, and God has foreshown us in the Old Testament about the shedding of the blood of Christ.
In Leviticus 16, it was revealed that there was to be sevenfold sprinkling of the precious blood of Jesus. I am telling you this so you know that praying the blood of Jesus is not a small matter. We need to go back to the traditional praying of the blood of Jesus prayers which our fathers used to pray.
Leviticus 16:11-14 (KJV) says: “And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself: And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail: And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not: And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.”
Leviticus 16:19 (KJV), “And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.”
There is a sevenfold shedding of the blood of Jesus:
- His blood was shed at Gethsemane. The Bible says, “He prayed in agony, in intercession (Luke 22), and His sweat drops were like drops of blood.”
- They disfigured His face. The high priest struck Him across His face with rods.
- They pulled out His beards.
- They whipped His back with their special whip, not an ordinary whip. The whip they used in those days used to have pieces of metals and bones attached to it. So if it is used to beat a person and they drag it, it tears up his flesh. So when you hear “by His stripes, we are healed”, it is those stripes that pull the flesh.
- The Bible says that they placed the crown of thorns on His head, making blood flow from His head down to His face and body (Matthew 28).
- They nailed His hands and legs to the cross, and blood came out.
- When He had given up the ghost, the Bible says, “One of the soldiers thrust His side with a sword, and blood and water came out.”
The water that came out stands for our physical salvation. The blood that came out stands for our spiritual salvation. This is why every time the blood of Jesus is used in prayer or you plead the blood, it spells defeat to the devil.
The Bible says, “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb…”. Anytime the blood of Jesus is used, it drives demons out of our way when we pray using that name. The blood of Jesus brings judgement to all stubborn creatures. The enemy, devil, and demons hate people mentioning them. Blood of Jesus.
Many years back, I went to a country to minister. It was one of the countries in the Caribbean Islands, and we had finished, and we were leaving. Normally, you pass through security checks where your belongings have to be searched.
Now, my phone was inside my bag, and as they were checking my bag, somebody began to call me, and my ringtone then was “Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?”
The lady officer who was to check my bag screamed at me, “Take your bag away! Take it away!” I asked her, “Will you not check it?” She said, “I am checking nothing! I do not want to hear what that phone is saying.” This shows you the power in the blood of Jesus. Every time you apply the blood of Jesus, what happens is that the blood will speak and demons flee.
Like I told you before, you can apply the blood of Jesus on your body, your home, your factory, and every night before you sleep, you must cover your loved ones and property with the blood of Jesus.
If we could pray and plead the blood of Jesus every day, the result would be catastrophic to the enemy. Any bad thing hiding in the body of anybody can be located by the blood of Jesus. Great wonders begin to take place when you begin to understand the power in the blood of Jesus because the blood speaks for us, provides us with the promises of God, helps us to overcome Satan in every area, engraves our name in heavenly places, protects future generations, and represents Christ’s sacrifice for us.
So anytime there is any singing having to do with the blood, sing it well. Learn as many songs about the blood of Jesus as you possibly can. You should know songs like:
- Would you be free from the burden of sin? There is power in the blood, power in the blood. There is power, power, wonder-working power.
- There is power mighty in the blood.
● Can you close your eyes and sing this song loud and clear three hot times:
There is power mighty in the blood, there is power mighty in the blood; there is power mighty in the blood of Jesus Christ, there is power mighty in the blood.
To apply the blood of Jesus correctly, there is a place that teaches us how to do that very well. The way Israel was asked to apply the blood of Jesus is a wonderful pattern for us to follow:
Exodus 12:21-23 (KJV) says, “Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover. And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts (the left and the right, representing the cross of Jesus) with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.”
These verses we have just read can take three months to analyse. They are loaded with lessons. I do not think we can cover all tonight.
- The tremendous responsibility of being a father in the house. The father is to be the priest of the house. This shows us the importance of those fathers. It was not the wives and children called to that meeting by Moses; it was the fathers.
- That Passover signifies the passing over of the angel of destruction. They were to carefully choose the lamb, slay it, and pour it into a bason, it must not be spilt. The blood was then applied unto the lintel and doorpost, not on the floor or threshold. None should walk over the blood of Jesus. It is amazing that the salvation of the whole of Israel depended on how they transferred that blood from the basin to the doorpost. The hyssop is a weed that grows everywhere in the Middle East, such a humble and unimportant plant. But that plant became an essential tool for the salvation of Israel.
- “Let nobody get out of that house” meant that the blood does not avail for the disobedient. That blood applied was to be for the peace of mind of the people, taking away the fear of the destroying angel. It was not just appreciation in the blood but application of that blood. As it was in the Old Testament, likewise, the blood is now in the basin for us, and we need to learn how to apply it. And one way you can apply the blood is through your confession using the blood of Jesus, which we have been doing here since this series started. This is where we are stopping tonight.
