Topic: 50 LESSONS FROM ROMANS 8:28
Text: Romans 8:28.
Minister: Dr. Daniel Olukoya (G.O. MFM Worldwide)
Romans 8:28 (KJV) says: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
This is where we say, “All things work together for our good.” I want to draw out lessons from this passage. Anyone telling you that life is easy is just deceiving you. Any preacher telling you that you can live a trouble-free life is just being fraudulent.
There are things that happen, and you feel “life is not fair. Why should this happen? Why should that happen?” So life often presents us with a mixture of experiences.
There are seasons of laughter and seasons of tears, moments of clarity and moments of confusion, times of abundance and times of lack, and times of conspiracy, times of the unrighteous conspiring against the righteous.
So there are diverse experiences in life. In these diverse experiences, people sit down and ask, “Where is God in all these things? Why is God sitting down and allowing all these to happen?” Romans 8:28 offers a timeless answer. It assures every child of God that nothing happens by accident. Nothing takes the Almighty by surprise.
Every event is working for your good. This verse is a divine anchor that keeps the believer steady when the storms of life are raging. The psalmist says something very interesting which I would like you to repeat loud and clear: “The Lord is on my side: I shall not fear what man can do unto me.”
What he is essentially saying is in Romans 8:28. So when we face disappointments, betrayals, delays, and losses, it is easy to think God has forgotten us, but Romans 8:28 reminds us that God is still at work behind the scene. God is an expert at turning what is meant for evil to victory. There are many of us here who would never have heard about MFM if the enemy did not harass them. That harassment drove you to prayers, and those prayers drove you to your breakthroughs. At the end of the day, the harassment has turned around for our good.
This verse says divine providence; it explains to us the mysterious ability of God to make every detail of our life count for good. This is a serious matter.
In the early 70s, a friend of mine, a born-again child of God, was going through Ore (in Nigeria). He got to Ore car park, and one bus driver was shouting, “Two more passengers left.” He got in and sat down. He told the person beside him, “I want to buy something,” and went down. He went to buy a pen. Before he came back, two new people had joined the bus, and threw his bag out.
He wanted to fight; he was very angry. The next bus was empty, and it would take 24 passengers to fill it up. Anyway, he went to the next bus, sat down and waited for it to fill up. But by the time his bus moved and they got to the front, he began to do praises and worship. He saw that the vehicle in front had entered into the river. So Romans 8:28 comes to mind again. “All things work together for good to them that love God.”
FROM THIS PASSAGE, WE CAN SEE THAT ROMANS 8:28,
- Is a divine assurance that God’s hand is actively shaping every believer’s life for a glorious outcome.
- Is a believer’s anchor of hope in life’s darkest moments in the factory of destiny.
- Is a declaration of divine control, reminding us that nothing happens by accident for those who belong to God. Joseph grew up under Jacob. He lost his mother early, and his father adored him, even spoilt him. He made a garment of many colours. He was spoilt to the extent that he would tell his brothers, “I have a dream; I saw this and that.” Yet, he would see their countenance and still keep talking. He was spoilt. God looked at Joseph and felt, “If he remains under Jacob, he could never be a disciplined man. The father will not train and discipline him well.”
Then the travail of Joseph started. His brothers sold him into slavery and put him into the pit. But there was one interesting thing about him. As they put him there, there was one thing he kept looking at. He would look up and say, “This is not my final bus stop.
No one would bow down to me here.” Even in Potiphar’s house, he would look up and say the same words. From there, he went to prison. Even in the prison, he did not give up. Then he finally went to the palace. When he eventually became a prime miner and his brothers came to meet him, he told them, “You thought it for me for evil, but God turned it around for good.”
I am praying for somebody here who can shout a sevenfold amen:
- Every plan of the enemy against your life shall become your testimony, in the name of Jesus.
- Is a statement of unshakeable faith that no pain or delay is ever wasted in the economy of God. God never comes late. He may not come when you want Him, but He will be right on time.
- Is the believer’s comfort in confusion. What we do not understand today will make sense later in God’s timing.
- Is the believer’s spiritual insurance, guaranteeing that nothing happens outside the boundary of divine permission.
- is a divine mystery revealing that God uses blessings and burdens to build His people.
- Is a call to trust God even when His plan is unclear or painful.
- Is a reminder of God’s faithfulness, proving He can turn every attack into an avenue of blessings.
- A covenant of confidence teaching that God’s love can turn chaos into testimonies.
- A defence against discouragement, despair or what looks like failure.
In 1990, a mother carried her daughter to me in my counselling session in a wedding gown. The wedding day had come, and the bridegroom did not show up to marry her but showed up in another church to marry her chief bridesmaid. So the lady fainted and wanted to swallow poison, and they bundled her to me. I was ministering to her to be patient. I quoted this scripture, “And all things work together for good to them that love God,” but she was not listening to me.
She said, “Dr. Olukoya, let me die.” Anyway, we continued to encourage her. One week after the man’s wedding to her chief bridesmaid, both of them were travelling, and their vehicle got involved in an accident, and both of them died. It was then she understood that she could have been the one in that car. Anytime I see her, I tease her and say, “Sister Dr Olukoya, I want to die.” She later got married properly.
- Is a language of faith empowering believers to see might in darkness and purpose in their pain.
- Is a divine principle of reversal showing that God can turn opposition, betrayal and delay into promotion.
- Shows that the promise does not say that “all things are good” but that “all things work together for good”. This is a big and significant difference. Many things happening may not feel good, like sickness, rejection, heartbreak and failure, but when God takes charge of them, they become instruments of growth, strength, testimony, joy and purpose.
- Is not a general promise for everyone. It just applies to those who love God and live according to His purpose.
There was a brother who worked in a bank. His boss did not like him. They did fraud and roped him in. Everyone testified against him, and he was found guilty and jailed for a crime he did not commit. He was worried and questioned God. He lamented, “God, why did this happen?” When he got to prison, he started evangelism, Bible study and prayer. It became so serious that early in the morning, you could hear prisoners singing and praying. One day, a prisoner fell sick; this man laid hands on the prisoner and prayed, and the person got healed.
When the person got healed, he said to him, “I have a confession to make. I stole that money; it was me and your manager who did it. I am sorry; forgive me. I am ready to write a confession letter.” And he did. The manager got arrested, and the government paid this brother huge compensation. The prisoner who made the confession died in the prison. This brother came out and started a ministry, and the prisoners were coming out of prison and joining. He used to say something very interesting. He used to say, “If God did not allow me to go to prison, I would not have a ministry today.”
- Did not tell us that everything will be sweet, but that whether they are sweet or not, they will work together for our good.
- Tells us that nothing happens to a believer that has not been filtered through the plan of God.
- Is a statement of certainty. It begins with “and we know”, not “we think” or “we hope”.
- Shows that suffering has a divine value; that even pain can produce spiritual gain.
- Tells us that delay is not denial. It is part of God’s processes towards something greater.
- God’s love is not passive but is active; He is always working behind the scene for his children.
Can you raise up your right hand where you are and decree this:
- My problems shall become my promotion by the power in the blood of Jesus. (7 times).
Romans 8:28 –
- Tells us that God is never surprised about what happens in anybody’s life. He already planned how to turn it to good.
- Is a cure for worry and anxiety because God has arranged the outcome for every situation. He says, “Be careful for nothing, but with everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God.” He also says, “How many of you by worrying can change your hair?”
- Exposes the limitation of human understanding, teaching that faith must trust what sight cannot explain. The Bible says, “If you believe, you will see the glory of God.” The opposite is true. You believe before you see. Many want to see before they believe. Many want the walls of Jericho to fall down before they surround it and shout.
- Shows that every disappointment carries a divine appointment. One brother was sharing a testimony. He was looking for a job; he finally got invited to an interview, and as he was attending the interview, the vehicle broke down. For two hours, the vehicle did not work. He missed the interview. He went home complaining. He thought about it till the next morning. The next day, when he heard that the building in which they held the interview collapsed and the interviewer and candidates invited died, he began to do praises and worship. Two weeks later, the same company invited him to a higher position, and he got a better job.
- I am praying for somebody here today: every evil planned against you by your enemies shall become your testimony, in the name of Jesus.
- Shows that God can use the evil intention of the enemy for righteous outcomes, just like He did in Joseph’s story. They said about Joseph, “Let us kill him and see what will become of his dreams.” But because all things work together for good, they could not kill him, and his dreams were fulfilled.
- I prophesy upon the life of somebody here today: every enemy of the fulfilment of your good dreams shall be buried tonight, in the name of Jesus.
We also see that Romans 8:28 –
- Declares that divine purpose is stronger than human mistake.
- Means that God can rewrite any negative story and still bring glory out of it.
- Is a divine guarantee that your present pain will produce future gain.
- Encourages believers to see beyond the moment and look at life through the eyes of eternity. “Why did this happen?” “Why did that happen?” Look beyond the moment.
- Reveals that God can turn persecution into promotion, and He has done that so many times.
- Teaches that your faith must hold on even when your feelings cannot understand. Faith must hold on; fear must go. Many in the hospital die, not even because of the sickness but because of fear. It is just like the story of that man crying at the hospital, “Nurse, give me medicine!” He cried all night. “This one just died; give me medicine.” He had been given all the medicines needed. He shouted so much and did not allow anyone to sleep, so they put water in the syringe and injected him, and he said, “Thank you,” and stopped shouting.
- Is proof that God’s wisdom is greater than man’s confusion.
- Shows that it does not matter how bad things look; God is still at work in the background. The zero can become a hero; nobody can still be somebody.
- Explains that believers should interpret life not by sight but by faith in God’s character, which says, “All things work together for good to them that love the Lord…”
- Shows that even mistakes can be transformed into miracles.
- Teaches that divine timing is different from human timing. Because many are depending on their timings, they get discouraged.
- Shows that every trial carries a hidden testimony.
- Teaches that God’s plan is not to harm you but to help you. “My ways are not your ways, neither are my thoughts your thoughts. I will give you an expected end.”
- Teaches that divine purposes can never be frustrated by human circumstances.
- Shows that gratitude, not grumbling nor complaining, is the right response to hardship.
- Reveals that the believer’s story will always end in victory no matter the present challenge. I see someone here tonight: they told you you will never make it, but beginning from tonight, your story shall change, in the name of Jesus.
- Reveals that what breaks others down can build you when you walk with God.
- Proves that every chapter of a believer’s life, even the painful ones, will work for the glory of God.
- Proves that God is the master planner orchestrating every detail of your life with divine precision.
- Teaches that every event carries divine purpose even when its meaning is hidden from human eyes.
- Reveals that nothing happens by coincidence in the life of the one who walks with God.
- Shows that opposition becomes a ladder helping you to rise to your ordained place in destiny.
- Explains that God’s plan remains unstoppable regardless of human weaknesses or failure.
- Reveals that today’s pain and today’s trouble can give birth to tomorrow’s story when placed in God’s hands.
These are 50 lessons you can pick up. In conclusion,
- Every evil intention cannot cancel the divine plan.
- God will convert all those curses to blessings. Whether they hire evil prophets, raise seven altars, or kill seven bullocks and rams, God will convert all their curses to blessings.
- No experience in your life is wasted. God is using those details to build you into His masterpiece. All the school of hard knocks Joseph passed through later helped him in his life.
- Faith must often walk blindly, trusting God when the path is not clear and what men determined for evil; God can reprogram for good.
- God authors your story, and He can determine how it will end, not the enemy. Sometimes when some doors close, they are protecting you from destruction.
- Every trial carries a prophetic wait, preparing you for the next manifestation.
- when you look at everything you pass through, you shake your head and say, “God was right all the time.”
PRAYER POINTS
(Sing: I can see everything turning around, turning around, turning around for my good.
Everything is turning around for good, turning around for good, turning around for good, for me).
- Powers sitting on my elevation, summersault and die, in the name of Jesus.
